Cuba reports 292 new COVID-19 cases

HAVANA, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Cuba's Ministry of Public Health on Monday reported 292 new infections of the COVID-19, the lowest number in the past 11 days, for a total of 18,443 cases.

The ministry also reported three more deaths from the pandemic, bringing the total death toll to 173.

The ministry's National Director of Epidemiology Francisco Duran warned there is still a high number of active cases at 4,439, including a 12-year-old boy in critical condition and four other minors in serious condition.

The first confirmed cases of novel coronavirus in Cuba were reported in March 2020 after three Italian tourists visiting the central town of Trinidad tested positive for COVID-19.
