This has been achieved in a period of around ten years. It was in 2010 that the company had started to focus on exports. Since then, the company's exports have continued to grow over the years.

Mumbai to Mexico

The 500,000th car to be exported by SAVWIPL is a white-coloured Volkswagen Vento with left hand drive. The car is part of the batch of 982 cars that are on their journey to Mexico from Mumbai port. It is worth noting that the company manufactures both left hand drive and right hand drive cars meant for international markets.

As of now, SAVWIPL exports made-in-India cars to 61 countries. The primary markets include South America, Africa, Central America, Southeast Asia, Indian subcontinent, Caribbean region and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

It is with the help of its export program that the company has been able to achieve optimal utilization of its overall production capacity. In the current fiscal, the share of exports in overall production is around 45 percent.

As per the company's statement, car exports are an integral part of their business strategy in the country. Irrespective of whether the cars are meant for exports or for domestic market, SAVWIPL ensures that every unit manufactured meets world class quality standards. The company currently has two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in the state of Maharashtra, one in Chakan (near Pune) and the other in Aurangabad.

SAVWIPL owns five automotive brands in the country - Volkswagen, Skoda Auto, Porsche, Audi and Lamborghini. However, each of these brands operates independently, as each has its unique characteristics and distinct customer base. Taken together, the total number of products with SAVWIPL is more than 25. Total number of dealerships is more than 225.

While the Pune plant manufactures cars like Volkswagen Polo, Ameo, and Vento and Skoda Rapid, the Aurangabad unit is focused on producing premium and luxury cars from Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi.
