IGUIG, Cagayan, Feb. 21 (PIA) - - - A young legisator from this town proved that celebrating Valentine's Day is not for couples only as it can be celebrated with her fellow youth imparting knowledge on how to love and take care of our environment.

Sangguniang Bayan Member Ma. Riza Lyn Callueng, chair on Committee on Environment, discussed to the at least 200 junior high school students of Caridad Trinidad High School the town's pet project on environment which is the Project SAVE.

The Project SAVE underscored simple ways to love our environment to include : S which means to give measures on how to protect the environment; A which means to appreciate the contributions and benefit one Iguigeno may derive from the environment; V for value which means to be aware of the detrimental effects we may experience if one will not share his or her love to environment; and E for envision which means laying strategic plans.

Callueng said that waste is one of the problems in Iguig now which she said the youth sector has contributed almost 70% of it.

She urged every Iguigueno youth to be 'earth savers' and that one must increase environmental awareness, help in the pollution control, join in tree planting activities, help in conserving water & power, practice 4Rs which are the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Recovery and observe proper waste disposal.

"We have to take care of our environment and nature. Almost everthing na meron tayo ay galing sa environment," Callueng said.

The discussion was part of the Rotaract Club of Tuguegarao Citadel' youth forum dubbed as Project BASICS in partnership with Local Government Unit of Iguig and Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Iguig. (MDCT/PIA-2)
