BAGUIO CITY, June 18 (PIA) -- The city government recognized the courageousness of a young lady and her friends that led to the arrest of a child molester.
Police Colonel Allen Rae F. Co, Acting Police City Director of Baguio City together with the city officials led by Mayor Mauricio Domogan recently commended Jemma Olsim Madinno, together with her friends Jenylyn Bahyon and May-an Calyaen for their act of bravery and prompt action.
Madinno, 23 years old from Tinoc, Ifugao and a graduate of Bachelor of Elementary Education at the Ifugao State University, together with her friends rode a jeepney from La Trinidad to Baguio City on June 2 when she noticed a man molesting a child. She secretly took video of the incident.
While at the Burnham Park, they again saw the same man with one arm wrapped around the child who was focused to a phone, while his other hand was holding her private part. She took pictures and immediately reported the incident to the police station at the Burnham Park. She also posted the incident on social media.
The suspect was apprehended by police officers of the BCPO within hours. He was identified as Ramsey Laureto Tiwaken, 33, of Ambassador Tublay, Benguet, a chess and damath coach. He was the chess coach of the 10-year-old victim for five months at the time of the incident.
Tiwaken is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 7610, also known as the Child Abuse Law.
Department of Justice Assistant Secretary Cheryl Daytec-Yangot in her facebook commended Madinno for her courage; rising above one's fear to do the right thing even at great peril to oneself.
"If we all try to be JM OLSIM MADINNO who, even if very young, courageously made a stand against evil, we can make the world a safe place for our children and everyone. The government has interagency committees to end sexual exploitation of children. One challenge is how to get everyone to be a JM whose concern went beyond herself to an innocent stranger," she stated. (JDP/RMC-PIA CAR & Lucky Lopez- UC Intern)
